What does a bad day look like? Eclipse downside

eclipse

Yesterday was the 2024 total eclipse of the sun across America — a path stretching from Texas to Maine.

Aside from the science, the wonder, and NASA participation in this historic event, eclipse watchers were wildly enthusiastic about the historic solar event.

The eclipse was big business for the country.

In part, huge numbers of travelers making their way to sites of the path of totality, making it a tourist event. Also, the millions of the ISO eyeglasses sold by myriad shops and big box stores.

And, yet, hospitals were viewing the eclipse (pardon the bad pun) as a possible disaster.

for the many people who did not buy the proper ISO glasses, accidents incurred at crowded sites, and the potential for mass casualties.

The fervor of the eclipse was projected to stress understaffed healthcare in rural locations. Hospitals in the path of totality told Axios that they’ve been practicing emergency drills and coordinating with local officials for more than a year.
